Synopsis

Stone Hammond is the best tracker in Texas. He never comes home empty-handed. So when a wealthy railroad investor hires him to find his abducted granddaughter, Stone eagerly accepts.

Charlotte Atherton, former headmistress of Sullivan’s Academy for Exceptional Youths, will do anything to keep her charges safe, especially the little girl entrusted to her care after her mother’s death. Charlotte promised Lily’s mother she’d keep the girl away from her unscrupulous grandfather, and nothing will stop Charlotte from fulfilling that pledge. Not even the handsome bounty hunter with surprisingly honest eyes who comes looking for them.

When the teacher he’s after produces documentation that shows she’s the little girl’s legal guardian, Stone must reevaluate everything he’s been led to believe. Is Miss Atherton villain or victim? She acts more like a loving mother than an abductress, and the children in her care clearly adore her. Should Stone break his perfect record?

Then a new danger threatens, and Charlotte is forced to trust the man sent to destroy her. Stone becomes determined to protect what he once sought to tear apart. Besides, he’s ready to start a new pursuit: winning Charlotte’s heart.

My thoughts

Find a comfy chair and a cozy spot, clear your calendar, and prepare to become fully ensconced in the romantic adventure that is A Worthy Pursuit.

Karen Witemeyer is my current go-to author for fantastic historical romance. Faith, men and women of strong character, great historical settings, romance that sets each and every page on fire and suspense, action and adventure. What more could you want?

The closing of Sullivan’s Academy for Exceptional Youths sees the end of Charlotte’s role as headmistress. But what troubles Charlotte is what will become of Lily, Stephen and John. Determined to provide a secure and loving home for the children and ensure that Lily is kept safe from her scheming grandfather, Charlotte secrets the children away. Lily’s grandfather is bent on removing her from Charlotte’s rightful guardianship and has employed Stone Hammond to retrieve the girl. But Stone soon realises there is more to the story and becomes enraptured by the former school teacher and her three young charges.

I loved every page of this book. It was so enjoyable to read. I ripped through it and then wanted to read it all over again. The standout was the romance. Each touch, each look. The attraction between Stone and Charlotte is immediate, but what grows between them is more than just great chemistry and sparks (though there’s plenty of that too). Stone is the perfect male lead. Big as a grizzly bear, with a warm heart, kind, loving with the children and fiercely protective. But he has his work cut out for him in wooing Charlotte and protecting her little family. I was surprised by how engaging the action and suspense was in this book. Tied together by great romance and lovely interactions between the children, I couldn’t put this book down.

The publishers provided a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
