I have watched with interest as Makerspaces have become the latest trend for libraries, particularly school libraries. However, Makerspaces are certainly not a new idea by any means. The DIY and maker culture has long existed in our society, but the recent push to include these innovation spaces within libraries can prevent both exciting opportunities and many challenges. There is now a huge range of technology, resources, how-to-guides, and even funding grants available.
I am just beginning on my own Makerspace journey, and have recently been able to begin experimenting with a Makerspace within a school library. Over the coming weeks, months and years, I hope to expand my knowledge of what a good Makerspace can be and do, and the best resources and tools available for making a Makerspace. I will be documenting my discoveries here on my blog.
